2016 Lyon County Fair deemed a success

The rides are shut down, the animals have gone home and the smoke from events like the tractor pull and demolition derby has dissipated.

All that means the 2016 Lyon County Fair is now history, and Fair Board member Ken Duff is pleased with how things went. He's also glad people again turned out in droves to enjoy the fair, whether it be for the grandstand events, carnival or 4-H activities.

The weather threw some curveballs at Fair Board members, especially the heavy rain Aug. 5-6. That caused a scramble to get the Phil Vassar concert started on time and actually led to a one-hour delay of the 4-H rodeo on Wednesday due to continued muddy grounds.

Improvements before the fair helped the enjoyment levels of all attending. The property as a whole saw a major electrical upgrade in large part due to a power outage during last year's fair, and there were no issues reported -- up until late Saturday night, when a power line disconnected and caused a small, short-lived fire. Also, the sound system for the grandstand was upgraded as well.
