With warmer days on the horizon, insects and the diseases they carry are becoming a concern.
Mosquitos and ticks are a common pest that accompany the summer season. Each of these pests is often hard to see and affect millions of people each year with diseases including the West Nle virus, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and Lyme disease.
Flint Hills Community Health Center CEO Renee Hively explains how ticks become carriers of the diseases they pass.
Hively says when it comes to preventing mosquitos in your environment it is vital to limit the potential of any breeding grounds.
If you are working outdoors or in wooded areas, it is encouraged to wear close-toed shoes, long pants and socks to prevent any possibility of ticks or mosquito bites. After working outdoors be sure to monitor your body and check for any signs of bites or ticks. For questions and more information contact the Flint Hills Community Health Center at 620-342-4864.
