One person was taken to Newman Regional Hospital following an injury accident which led to a downed power line late Sunday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called out to the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Sherman Street shortly after 4:30 pm for a two-vehicle injury accident according to Emporia Police Officer Tim Herrel. Herrel tells KVOE News a total of four vehicles were involved in the incident which developed after an eastbound Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck was traveling recklessly eastbound on Sixth and collided with a southbound Chevy Silverado in the intersection.
The collision caused the Silverado to spin and collide with a power pole bringing it to the ground and causing a power line to fall into the intersection. The line then wrapped around the Dodge as the driver lost control and jumped a curb into the parking lot of Becker Auto Sales leading to a second collision with a parked Honda S 2000 and a parked Chevy 1500 pickup truck.
The driver of the Dodge was taken to Newman Regional Health with what are being called minor injuries. Traffic was blocked in all directions from Sherman to Wilson for close to two hours as crews cleared the scene.
Names of the individuals involved have not yet been released. Stay with KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media for more details as they become available.
