Traffic on the Kansas Turnpike was constricted more so than the recent norm after a reported vehicle fire early Friday and a vehicle breakdown Thursday afternoon.
Just after 1 am, the vehicle fire was reported near mile marker 140 southbound, or 13 miles northeast of Emporia. Firefighters were called to the scene but later discovered the problem was a shorted wire, not an actual fire. No injuries were reported.
Shortly before 3 pm Thursday, a semi broke down at mile marker 130 northbound, three miles northeast of Emporia. The semi came to a stop in one of several construction zones between the Emporia gate and the Emporia service area five miles northeast of town. It took over three hours to get the semi cleared and traffic going normally.
