Springtime feel to be evident for 2017 Polar Plunge, Strut

There won't be much polar about this year's Polar Plunge taking place Saturday at Mouse Lake.
Temperatures could be around 60 by the time the plunge officially starts at 11:30 am -- just perfect for this year's theme, according to organizer Kevin Risley.

The Polar Strut starts at Mouse Lake at 10 am. Last year's event had around 80 participants, and organizers believe they will go well above that number Saturday.
Activities actually start and end at the Emporia Senior Center again this year, with a breakfast and the start of a silent auction at 8 am and taco feed from 12 to 2 pm. Check-in again is at the Senior Center starting at 9 am along with duck adoptions for the Pluck-A-Duck part of the program.
There is still time to register by going online to www.plungeks.org. Proceeds from the events at the Senior Center help Emporia's Special Olympics teams. Proceeds from the plunge and strut benefit Special Olympics efforts at the state level.
