Former student driving instructor to be sentenced Wednesday on sex battery charge

The former director of the UDrive Kansas driving school will be sentenced this week on a charge of misdemeanor sexual battery.
Robert L Jones was accused of sexually abusing a teenaged girl in August. He was originally charged with aggravated sexual battery but reached a plea agreement on the reduced charge in late January.
Jones directed the UDrive Kansas student driving school from when it opened in 2012 until the investigation came to light this summer, at which time he was fired. He was also a sponsor assistant and community volunteer for Emporia Middle School's Fellowship of Christian Athletes club but was not serving in either role when the fall semester began. Prior to that, he was a driver's license examiner with the Kansas Department of Revenue for over 20 years.
Sentencing is at 2 pm Wednesday in Lyon County District Court.
