Newman Regional Health has been providing some important training to hospital officials this week in the area of gross decontamination.
Training took place Wednesday and Thursday as hospital officials set up their disaster tent behind the emergency room. The class included mostly non-clinical staff members including security, facilities, environmental services and ER staff getting familiarized with hazardous materials equipment. Harold Blits, Director of Group Facilities says the training is essential to keeping both contaminated patients and hospital staff safe.
In September, those staff members will undergo an extensive three day class of gross decontamination training, provided by the hospital. Blits says the training is recommended for hospitals but not mandatory.
