Beeson waives preliminary hearing in auto theft case

An amended complaint has been filed against an Emporia man accused in a pair of motor vehicle thefts from late May.
Matthew Beeson appeared in Lyon County District Court Wednesday afternoon where he waived preliminary hearing. An arrest affidavit states that on May 30, Beeson falsely represented himself as an undercover police officer, took a pickup illegally from Guion's Showcase and a trailer. He also allegedly took his girlfriend's vehicle that same evening without her permission.
The amended complaint states that Beeson's DUI conviction was a fourth or subsequent conviction rather than a first time offense. The judge has set the case for a pretrial conference on Aug. 11 at 2 p.m.
