Jury trial set for Emporia man accused of impersonating police officer and auto thefts

An Emporia man accused in a pair of motor vehicle thefts is now awaiting trial.

Matthew Beeson, 42, appeared at a pretrial conference Friday where Judge W. Lee Fowler scheduled a jury trial later this year. Beeson is accused from a May 30 incident of falsely representing himself as an undercover police officer,  taking a pickup and trailer from Guion's Showcase and allegedly also taking his girlfriend's vehicle that same evening. An amended complaint filed in July also stated Beeson was arrested for a fourth DUI conviction.
Final pretrial in the case is set for Sept. 20 with jury trial dates set for Sept. 25, Oct. 2 or Oct. 23.
