City Commission candidates discuss the issues with KVOE

KVOE began its first of four Candidate Forums Tuesday as all five Emporia City Commission candidates came to the studios to answer questions about issues facing the city.
Among the topics discussed were where the candidates stand on the current industrial use sales tax which will be on the Nov. 7 ballot. All were in support of the extension of the tax. Becky Jaggard-Smith says she'd like to see more sustainable growth.
Incumbent Jon Geitz says the biggest thing that will face the city commission will face in the future is how to make priorities financially.
In terms of economic development, Kelly Wade says its important for the city to continue to be aggressive.
Candidate Christian Keisler says when it comes to the comprehensive plan with Urban Collaborative he'd like to see the city, RDA, Chamber and Main Street come together on the plan.
On the relationship between the city and Lyon County all candidates agreed it's been solid. Incumbent Danny Giefer suggested even looking to expanding other county partnerships.
