Emporia State on its way to being a smoke-free campus

The air over Emporia State University will soon be a little clearer.

That's because effective Jan. 1, 2018 the ESU campus will go completely smoke free. On Wednesday, ESU's Tobacco Free Task Force held an awareness event for the new on-campus smoking ban in the Memorial Union. Task Force Chair Brooke Bailey says the ban effective January 1, 2018 has been a long time coming.

Bailey says that it has also taken three ASG administrations to get the policy passed, but cohesion between administration helped the process.

Earlier this year, the ESU Associated Student Government and Faculty Senate both passed the smoking ban on campus. ESU began implementing policies May 12 as they get students ready for the transition.
