UPDATE: No injuries after separate fires near Americus, Olpe

No injuries were reported after a pair of vehicle fires that took place Wednesday night.
 
About 8:15 pm, a fire was reported in the 800 block of Road K near Olpe. The original report was for a barn fire with the structure fully engulfed in flames, but the fire was actually in a dump truck inside a garage at that address and the structure did not suffer any fire damage. Deputy Nolan Kehres says the truck was parked under the lean tube of the barn and the fire started inside the engine and cab compartment.
 
Olpe and Emporia firefighters fought the fire along with deputies and neighbors.
 
There were no injuries. Kehres says nobody was around the dump truck when the fire started.
 
About 6:15 pm, a pickup caught fire in the 2500 block of Road G near Americus. Lyon County Deputy Justin Carr says John Atherton was southbound on Road G when he noticed smoke in the cab of his pickup. Atherton stopped the vehicle and noticed flames under the dashboard.
 
Atherton was able to get out of the truck without any injuries, but his pickup was destroyed.
 
Americus and Emporia firefighters responded. Emporia fire crews were canceled before they could get to the scene.
 
10 pm Wednesday: No injuries after structure fire report near Olpe
 
Emporia and Olpe firefighters along with Lyon County deputies responded to a structure fire Wednesday night just after 8 p.m. northwest of Olpe.
 
The structure fire occurred in the 800 block of Road K. According to Lyon County Deputy Nolan Kehres, the fire was contained to a garage on the property and was put out by a neighbor before firefighters could arrive. A dump truck parked inside the garage was destroyed. There were no injuries associated with the fire.
 
Additional details are pending as the fire remains under investigation.
