Emporia and Lyon County officials continue to provide more information about the newly adopted Joint Comprehensive Plan also known as Plan ELC.
The suggestions in the plan from Urban Collaborative are not necessarily things that have to be committed to, but rather will serve as a guide for planning officials in the future. Lyon County Planning and Zoning Director Sam Seeley, a guest on Wednesday's Talk of Emporia, says a controversial objective outlined in the plan is the suggestion to have a 40 acre minimum to build a home on.
Goals of the plan include preserving agricultural landscapes, linking parks to people, connecting communities and infill development for housing. Seeley says they will use suggestions in the plan as a guide when looking to rewrite zoning regulations for housing, infrastructure and economic development. Another unique aspect of the plan Seeley says is bringing the county and city together on zoning regulations to ensure more clarity.
Public meetings are being currently being planned. If you missed any of the Talk of Emporia interview with Sam Seeley, it will be posted soon in the KVOE Audio Vault.
