Emporia woman arrested on suspicion of DUI, other traffic offenses after Thursday wreck at US 50 and Industrial

New details have been released related to Thursday night's wreck at US Highway 50 and Industrial that sent one woman to the hospital and another to the Lyon County Jail.
 
The driver of the Kia, 35-year-old Sara Rathke, was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI, circumvention of ignition interlock device and following too close. The case is being referred to the Lyon County Attorney's Office for review.

Rathke's car rear-ended a passenger driven by 38-year-old Kimberly Dunaway of Gridley. Dunaway was stopped at the intersection awaiting a northbound turn. A passenger in the Kia, 35-year-old Emily Ivy, was transported to Newman Regional Health with a head injury, according to Emporia Police. Ivy was not wearing a seat belt. Dunaway had a possible head injury but was not transported. Rathke and a juvenile passenger from Dunaway's vehicle were not injured. Both occupants of the Toyota were wearing seat belts. It is unknown if Rathke was wearing a seat belt at the time.
 
Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

10:30 pm Thursday: One injured, one arrested after crash near Hwy 50 and Industrial Road
 
Emporia Police say alcohol may have been a contributing factor in a two-vehicle crash that injured at least one person Thursday evening at the intersection of West Highway 50 and Industrial Road.
 
The crash happened shortly after 8:30 p.m. Lt. Kevin Risley says a Kia rear-ended a Toyota Corolla in the intersection. Both vehicles were westbound at the time. Risley says a female passenger in the Kia was transported by ambulance to Newman Regional Health with head trauma. The driver of the Kia, a female, was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI. Their names have not been released.
 
No injuries were reported to any occupants of the other vehicle. Westbound traffic was rerouted for about 45 minutes following the crash. The crash remains under further investigation by the Emporia Police Department.

9:45 p.m. Thursday

At least one person was hurt following a two vehicle crash Thursday evening at the intersection of West Highway 50 and Industrial Road.

Emporia Police and Emporia Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the scene shortly after 8:30 p.m. involving a passenger car and a compact vehicle that collided in the intersection. Early indication was at least one person was transported by ambulance to Newman Regional Health. It is unknown if the slick conditions played a factor in the crash.

Westbound traffic was rerouted for about 45 minutes following the crash. Additional details are pending from the Emporia Police Department.
