Emporia firefighters handled two small grass fires Tuesday.
The first fire developed in the 1800 block of Road E-5 around 4:30 pm. Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage tells KVOE News the fire about two miles west of Emporia burned about four acres before it was put out. The fire developed after a brush fire got out of control. The blaze eventually went into a small valley and tree line before firefighters from Emporia and Americus were able to contain it.
No injuries were reported. Francisco Ortiz is the property owner.
Shortly after 9:30 pm, a grass fire developed in the 1200 block of Road K. Early indications are this was a rekindle from prior activity and was fairly small when fire crews arrived and put it out.
Additional details are pending on the Road K fire.
