An expert source gave local educators an in depth look into behavioral development thanks to Crosswinds Counseling and Wellness.
Dr. Tina Payne Bryson, a renowned psychotherapist specializing in child development, began her first of two day seminars at the Bowyer Building today (Wed). Dr. Bryson presented content from her book "The Whole Brain Child" which details proper methods to dealing with emotional issues in children.
Dr. Bryson says her fascination with studying the brain and the emotions that come with it was born from a maternal desire.
The presentation was broken into two sessions the first focusing on elementary school aged children and the second focusing on secondary education. A major point of Dr. Bryson's presentations is how teachers and educators can best handle emotional outbursts from students.
Dr. Bryson says one of the key methods she has seen reduce behavioral issues in schools is teachers creating secure relationships built on empathy rather than authority.
Dr. Bryson will conclude her two day series Thursday with a seminar on outpatient mental health treatment beginning at 9 a.m. and concluding at 4:30 p.m. For more information on Dr. Bryson and all of her works visit her website at www.Tinabryson.com
