The Emporia State womens and mens basketball teams picked up wins over Central Oklahoma Wednesday night.
The Lady Hornets out scored Central 61-53. They scored 23 of their points off of turnovers. Coach Jory Collins said the won the game with a solid defensive effort.
Jessica Wayne had 6 steals and scored a team high 16 points.
Morgan Lauden added 12 points and Jacee Kramer finished with 10 points. The Lady Hornets led by 16 early in the 4th quarter. They never trailed by more then 3 points in the game. Emporia State also out rebounded Central 40-35. Tyra Jones had 10 rebounds. They also out scored the Bronchos 16-12 from the free throw line. The Lady Hornets are now 10-3 for the season and 5-1 in the MIAA.
The Emporia State men held on for a 71-69 win. Their biggest lead was by 16 points with 7:38 in the 2nd half. They also had an 12 point lead with 3:40 to play. Central cut the lead to 1 with 2 seconds to play. Emporia State never trailed, there were 4 ties. Coach Shaun Vandiver says they need to get better at closing out games.
Grant Shell scored 13 points to lead the Hornets.
Garin Vandiver finished with 12 points and Stephaun Limuel scored 10 points. The Hornets improve to 8-7 for the season they are now 3-3 in the MIAA.
Emporia State hosts Northeastern State Saturday.
