Chase County collected the doubleheader sweep over Madison in Cottonwood Falls Tuesday night, with the girls winning 57-32 and the boys collecting a 67-37 victory.
The Chase County girls took a 3 point lead into halftime following a Cassidy Kelsheimer 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining in the half and outscored Madison 37-15 in the second half. Chase Country girls' coach Chris Brown said sloppy play hurt them early in the game but once the began taking care of the basketball, things took care of themself.
Kelsheimer and Katie Turner paced Chase County with 13 points apiece. Alexa Roush scored 13 to lead Madison. Chase County improves to 12-6, while Madison falls to 8-10.
The Chase County stretched their lead to 8 over Madison at the end of the 1st quarter, then outscored Madison 29-9 in the 2nd quarter. Kolton Shenker led the barrage, scoring 16 of his 24 first-half points in the second. Chase County boys' coach Kraig Shenker said once the adjusted to Madison's defense, they were able to take control.
Troy Higgs joined Shenker in double figures with 10 points. Just Rayburn led Madison with 11. Chase County improves to 10-8, while Madison falls to 1-17.
