The Emporia State mens basketball team celebrated senior night by ending a 9 game losing skid with a 68-66 win over Washburn Tuesday night.
The Hornets use a 13-0 run to close out the first half, highlighted by a 3 shot the buzzer to end the half by Brandon Hall as the Hornets took a 29-27 at halftime. The two teams traded leads 12 times and there were 7 ties. The Hornets trailed by 11 in the first half and led by as many as 7 in the 2nd half. Coach Shaun Vandiver said they made plays.
Stephaun Limuel grabbed an offensive rebound and was fouled with 1.2 seconds to play. He made both freethrows to seal the win.
Grant Shell led Emporia State with 16 points. Garin Vandiver added 13, Hassan Thomas finished with 12 and Brandon Hall scored 10 points. The Hornets with the win improved ot 9-16 for the season and 4-12 in the MIAA. They will play at Southwest Baptist Thursday.
Before the game Seniors Garin Vandiver, Brian Morton and Stephaun Limuel were recognized as the seniors on this years team.
