Emporia State baseball wins game 1 of MIAA tournament

The Emporia State baseball team out scored Washburn 10-1 to win the first game of a best of 3 series in the MIAA tournament Thursday.

The Hornets took a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning on a 2 run homerun by Aaron Gile. They would add single runs in the 6th and 7th innings before exploding with 6 runs in the 8th. Gile finished the game going 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Price Jacobs was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Shawn Talkington was the winning pitcher going 7.2 innings giving up 1 run on 6 hits and struck out 4. Emporia State and Washburn play again Friday night with first pitch at 6pm. If Emporia State wins the will advance to the final 4 of the MIAA tournament in Springfield, Missouri.
