Emporia American Legion Baseball

The Emporia AAA Legion baseball team finished 1-1 on day 1 of the Sam Ellis Classic Friday. The A legion opened play in the Ottawa wood bat tournament.

The Emporia AAA rolled to a 14-2 win over Burlington in their second game of the Sam Ellis Classic. The Post 5 seniors scored 3 runs in the 2nd inning and never looked back. They added 3 more runs in both the 4th and 5th innings and put the game out of reach with 5 runs in the 6th. Austin Gordon was the winning pitcher going 5 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits.

Jeff Bonitatibus scored 4 runs to lead the offense.

Earlier in the day Emporia was run ruled by the Wichita Aviators 10-2. Coach Shawn Wilson said the second game is more of what he expects from his team.

Saturday the Post 5 seniors are scheduled to play the Home Plate Cactus at 7pm. That will follow an alumni game that is set to begin at 4pm. In Saturdays first game, scheduled for noon, has Burlington playing the Wichita Aviators. All Games will be played on Jones Field at Sodens Grove.

The Emporia A Legion was out scored by Ottawa 12-6 in their first game of the Ottawa wood bat tournament Friday. The game was tied at 4 after 3 innings. Ottawa would take the lead for good with 3 runs in the 5th and added 4 more runs in the 7th for the win. The Post 5 Juniors are scheduled to play Topeka and Rock Creek Saturday.
