The New York Yankees scored first, the Kansas City Royals scored last, but it was not enough as the Yankees out scored the Royals 4-2 Friday night.
The Yankees took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd. The Royals tied the game in the bottom of the second on a single by Salvador Perez scoring Alex Gordon. The Yankees retook the lead with a 3 run 3rd inning on a Brian McCann double. The Royals added a 2nd run in the 5th inning when Alex Gordon scored on a Lorenzo Cain double. The Royals and Yankees play again tonight in Kansas City.
Left-hander Justin Marks made his Major League debut with Kansas City this season, but that will be it for him with the Royals. Marks was dealt to the Oakland Athletics on Friday for cash. Oddly enough, he started his pro career with the A's after they drafted him in the third round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft. Oakland traded Marks and pitcher Vin Mazzaro to the Royals on November 10, 2010, for outfielder David DeJesus.
