The Kansas City Royals extended their winning streak to 5 in a row with a 4-2 win over San Francisco Friday night.
Billy Butler carried the big stick. He was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI. His 7th homerun of the season gave the Royals a 2-0 lead in the first inning. He also drove in a run with a single in the 6th inning.
Alex Gordon also drove in a run. Jason Frasor earned the win after striking out two in a perfect sixth. Starter Jason Vargas gave up two runs on nine hits with five strikeouts in five innings of work. Greg Holland fired a 1-2-3 ninth with two strikeouts to earn his 100th career save and 33rd of the season. The Royals and Giants play again Saturday night with James Shields on the mound for the Royals and Tim Hudson for the Giants. First pitch is set for 6:10p. The Royals remain 2.5 games back of Detroit in the AL Central and have a half game lead on New York and Seattle for the second wildcard spot. The Angles have the 1st wildcard spot, they trail the A's by 4 games in the West. Baltimore has a 5 game lead over the Yankees in the East.
In the National League Washington, Milwaukee and the Los Angles Dodgers are the division leaders. Pittsburgh has the 1st wildcard spot. San Francisco and St. Louis are tied for the second wildcard spot.
