Emporia State baseball adds to recruiting class Featured

Emporia State baseball Coach Seth Wheeler has announced the addition of 8 more players for next season.




Connor Hurst is a junior outfielder from Augusta, Kan. and is transferring to Emporia State from Butler CC. Hurst was selected First-Team All-Jayhawk West with a .385 batting average, .467 slugging percentage and .799 on base percentage. He hit 18 home runs to tie for the most in the Jayhawk Conference, had 12 doubles and drove in 64 runs.

Alex Pener is a junior utility player from Overland Park, Kan. and comes to Emporia State after sitting out last year at Mississippi State. Pener received First-Team all-region awards in both his freshman and sophomore seasons at Scottsdale (AZ) Community College. He had a .297 batting average with 11 home runs and 45 RBI during his sophomore season. As a freshman, Pener was voted Second-Team All American with a .321 batting average, 11 home runs and 48 RBI. He is a graduate of Blue Valley Northwest HS.

Ryan Krolikowski is a junior first baseman from Grand Island, Neb. and is transferring from Cloud County CC. In 53 games with the T-Birds Krolikowski maintained a .364 batting average, .452 slugging percentage and a .545 on base percentage with 14 doubles, six home runs and 53 RBI. Krolikowski was voted second-team All-Jayhawk Conference.

Paul Claassen is a junior infielder from Whitewater, Kan. and is transferring from Barton CC. In 55 games with the Cougars, Claassen had a .290 batting average, .371 slugging percentage and a .432 on base percentage with 12 doubles, two triples and three home runs. He is a graduate of Remington HS.

Mitch Sloan is a senior outfielder from Paola, Kan. He played at Cameron University last season after attending Fort Scott CC. As a sophomore at Fort Scott, Sloan played in 58 games with a batting average of .338, a slugging percentage of .414 and an on base percentage of .502. He had 16 doubles and five home runs on the season.

Rustin Heibert is a sophomore catcher from Olathe, Kan. In 43 games at Independence CC, Heibert hit ten home runs and had 44 RBI. He is a graduate of Olathe North HS.

Hunter Williams is a sophomore outfielder from Topeka, Kan. He played one year at Barton CC after graduating from Topeka Seaman HS.

Matthew Jackson is a sophomore right handed pitcher from Chicago, Ill. He played at Walsh University after graduating from Brooks College Prep.

That brings to 21 the number of players in Coach Wheelers first recruiting class.

The Hornets are also set to return four position players and seven pitchers that played this past season.
