Emporia State adds to track and field recruiting class Featured

Emporia State track and field Coach Steve Blocker has announced the addition of 21 athletes for the up coming school year.

They include 2 athletes from Emporia High Miranda Reisen and Olivia Young. They join two other Spartans who were announced earlier Brent Hastert and Kaitlyn Karjala.
Two area athletes are also on the list Carter Swindale from Osage City and Tristan Lee from Burlingame.

 

Men
Will Amos - Afton (Okla.) HS - Sprints
Amos is a four-time OSSAA Class 2A state champion, capturing two 800m titles, a 400m championship and anchoring the 4x800m relay team. He has qualified for the state meet in 100m 200m, 400m and 800m. He will also play football for the Hornets.
Blocker on Amos-"He has great range and all-around athleticism. I'm excited to see what he brings to the program."

Leslie Etheridge - Junction City HS - Sprints/Jumps
Etheridge qualified for the KSHSAA Class 6A State Championships with a time of 50.90 in the 400m.
Blocker on Etheridge-"Leslie is a raw athlete with a lot of ability. He has been competing in track and field only a year or two, but has shown signs of what he can do. We are excited to have him in our program."

Gary Glenewinkel - Hurst (Texas) LD Bell HS - Pole Vault
Glenewinkel had a personal best vault jump of 14-00.00 to place sixth at the Texas UIL Region 1-6A meet.
Blocker on Glenewinkel-"I am excited to see how Gary helps us in the pole vault. It will be great to have another specialist in this area and Gary certainly has the mind-frame and potential to be successful in this event."

Hayden Goodpaster - Shawnee Mission Northwest HS - Sprints
Goodpaster is a two-time KSHSAA Class 6A state champion in the 400m. He ranks #7 all-time in Kansas with a personal best of 47.76 in the event which borke a 20 year old Shawnee Mission Northwest school record. He ran 21.82 to place fourth in the 200m at the state meet. He will also play football for the Hornets.
Blocker on Goodpaster-"Hayden's a difference-maker who will allow us to keep a strong field of sprinters now and into the future. A great competitor and we are excited to see what he can do."

Julian Gutierrez - Shawnee Mission Northwest HS - Sprints
Gutierrez ran on the state KSHSAA Class 6A state championship 4x400m Relay team and a placed 11th at the 6A Region #3 Championship in the 100m.
Blocker on Gutierrez-"Julian is a hard-working athlete who has only run for one year. He will help add strong depth to our 400m group."

Xavier Hall - Blue Springs HS - Hurdles
Hall has a lifetime best of 14.61 and placed third in the 110m hurdles at the MSHSAA Class 5A State Championships. He also placed fifth at the state meet with a PR of 39.08 in the 300m hurdles. He will also play football for the Hornets and is the younger brother of former Hornet track All-American Derwin Hall, who also played football at Emporia State.
Blocker on Hall-"We are very excited to add Xavier to our program. He is a tremendous athlete and has been very successful at the high school level. He will balance football and track and field and I am confident he will add some fire-power to our hurdle events."

Mitchell Hamlin - Hugoton HS - Sprints/Jumps
Hamlin placed fourth at the KSHSAA Class 4A state championships with a personal best of 49.69 in the 400m. He placed second at the 4A regional #9 with a personal best of 22-00 in the long jump.
Blocker on Hamlin-"Mitchell is a raw athlete with great range from the long jump to a quality 400m sprinter. He will certainly add to what has been a strong 400m group."

Joshua LeClair -Perry LeCompton HS - Multi-Events
LeClair ran 52.44 at the KSHSAA Class 3A State Championships to place tenth in the 400m. He placed 13th overall in the Shocker Pre-State Challenge Pentathlon.
Blocker on LeClair-"Josh will train in the combined events and has some previous experience in that area. He will add to a strong, young training group and are confident he will develop into a great all-around athlete.

Tristan Lee - Burlingame HS - Throws
Lee was the Lyon County League Champion in the discus and shot put as a senior. He was a state qualifier in the shot and discus his senior year.
Blocker on Lee-"Tristan's athleticism and dedication to throwing is exactly what we want in a thrower at ESU."

Travis Morrison - Shawnee Mission Northwest HS - Throws
Morrison was the KSHSAA Class 6A state champion in the shot as a senior. He participated in football and track at Shawnee Mission Northwest.
Blocker on Morrison-"Travis may be the best kept secret in Kansas and will compete in three events at ESU."

Tyler Palic - Marion HS - Throws
Palic is a two-time KSHSAA Class 2A state champion and state record holder in the discus. His mark of 191-11 is the 19th best throw in the state of Kansas history regardless of class. He was the KSHSAA Class 321A state runner up in wrestling at 195 pounds and also played football for Marion HS.
Blocker on Palic-"Tyler is a technician in the throws. With his big meet experience, he will turn heads in the MIAA."

Corbin Ramsey - Sedgwick HS - Hurdles/Multi-Events
Ramsey placed ninth at the KSHSAA Class 3A State Championships after taking second at the 3A Region #14 Championships in the 110m Hurdles.
Blocker on Ramsey-"Corbin will train in the combined events and has done multiple things at the high school level. He will help us create depth in the hurdles and multi-events."

Davion Scott - Kansas City Turner HS - Hurdles
Scott was the KSHSAA Class 5A Region 6 champion and placed third at the state meet with a personal best of 39.22 in the 300m hurdles.
Blocker on Scott-"Davion is a developer with a lot of up-side and a great work-ethic. He built a successful career in both hurdle events in high school and he will certainly contribute in the long hurdles for us. A great young man and a great sign for our program."

Wyatt Seidel - Sheldon (Ore.) HS - Hurdles/Multi-Events
Seidel ran 15.42 in the 110m hurdles to place fifth at the Oregon Class 6A-6 SWC District Championships. He also ran 39.56 and placed ninth at the Oregon State Championships in the 300m hurdles.
Blcoker on Seidel-"Wyatt is a solid signee for us. He has done many events and is a very good student. As a developer, we have some high hopes for him."

Carter Swindale - Osage City HS - Throws
Swindale had a best throw of 200-5 in the javelin for Osage HS. He was a three sport athlete in high school.
Blocker on Swindale-"Carter is a gifted athlete from Osage High School who could make an immediate impact at the MIAA conference meet."

Brandon Wilkes - Paola HS - Combined Events
Wilkes placed fourth in the Discus at the 4A Regional with a PR of 140-4 and finished 15th at the KSHSAA Class 4A State Championships in the event. He also ran 52.67 in the 400m at the regional and was a part of the 4x800 relay that placed fifth at the state meet.
Blocker on Wilkes-"I am excited to see how he develops in the combined events. He has run a strong 800m leg and also competed at the State meet in the discus. Brandon is a strong three-sport athlete who is eager to learn new events."

Women
Amy Foster - St. Marys HS - Throws
Foster was a state qualifier in the shot, discus, and javelin. She is the St, Marys HS record holder in the javelin and ranked in the top 10 in the state in the shot put and discus her senior year.
Blocker on Foster-"Amy lives track and field; she is a versatile thrower who may compete in four events in college."

Jasmine Hurla - Pittsburg St. Mary's Colgan HS - Sprints
Hurla finished eighth at the KSHSAA Class 3A State Championships in the 200m. She also placed 12th at the State meet in the 100m after finishing second at the regional.
"Jasmine is a strong athlete and will certainly add some talent and depth to a good group of sprinters. I am excited to see what she develops into."

Miranda Reisen - Emporia HS - Jumps
Reisen placed sixth at the KSHSAA Class 5A State Championships in the long jump and was fifth at the Regional in the triple jump.
"She will focus on the jumping events for us and has a strong work-ethic. I am very happy to have Miranda in our program and look forward to seeing what she is capable of."

Hannah Reynolds - Junction City HS - Throws
Reynolds was ranked in the top ten in the state in the discus as a senior. She was a State Powerlifting Champion in high school.
Blocker on Reynolds-"Hannah is one of the strongest athletes we have had in the throws in recent years. I am super excited to see how far she can throw."

Olivia Young - Emporia HS - Multi-Events
Young has a lifetime best of 5-4 in the high jump and placed second at the KSHSAA Class 5A State meet in the event. She has a personal best of 34-06.50 in the triple jump and will focus on the combined events at Emporia State.
Blocker on Young-"Olivia is a tremendous all-around athlete with a lot of up-side and strong mentality. I am excited for her future."

The Hornet men placed 15th in the nation in men's indoor track and field and were 55th nationally outdoors. Emporia State's men finished second at the MIAA Indoor Championships and were third outdoors. The women placed 13th at the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships and finished 11th outdoors.
