Chase County collects back to back wins over Council Grove on Area Game of the Week Featured

Chase County swept Council Grove on the Area Game of the Week Tuesday.

In the boys game, the Bulldogs would outlast the Braves in overtime to pick up a 45-44 win. Chase County would carry a 19-18 lead into the locker room and would lead by as many seven before a three-pointer by Haydn Beeling with three seconds left would tie the game at 38.

In overtime, both teams would trade the lead before a free throw by Chase County senior Hunter Groh and a missed shot by Council Grove junior Brady King would seal the win for the Bulldogs.

Chase County head coach Tanner Smith says his team fought hard for the win.

Chase County was led in scoring by senior Justin Kohlman with 16 points. Council Grove was led by King and freshman Koen (Co-In) Hula (Hoo-Luh) with 10 points each.

Chase County now improves to 5-4 as Council Grove falls to 4-5.

In the girl’s game, despite blowing three double-digit leads the Lady Bulldogs would hold on for a 45-38 win over the Lady Braves.

Despite outscoring Chase County 11-6 in the fourth quarter Council Grove could not overcome the defensive pressure to take the lead.

Chase County head coach Ron Slaymaker says Council Grove is always a tough test.

Senior Maya Eidman led Chase County with 17 points. Council Grove was led by junior Shyanne Allen with 12 points.

With the win, Chase County now improves to 7-2 on the season as Council Grove falls to 4-5.
