Chase County sweeps Southern Coffey County on Area Game of the Week Featured

Chase County collected back-to-back victories over Southern Coffey County Tuesday night on the Area Game of the Week.

In the girl’s game, Chase County would bounce back from an early deficit to defeat the Lady Titans 56-21.

Two early turnovers would see Chase County trail early in the first quarter before going on a three and a half minute 8-0 run to overtake the lead. Chase County would hold SCC to just three points in the second, outscoring SCC 21-3 to take a 32-9 lead into the lockerroom. Chase County continued the pressure in the second half which included holding SCC to just 1 point in the fourth on their way to the win.

The Lady Bulldogs had four players end the night in double figures and were led by sophomore Kaylee Simpson with 16 points. Senior Laken Vandegrift ended the night with 14 while fellow seniors Landry Hinkson and Makenzie Higgs each had 10.

Chase County Head Coach Ron Slaymaker says his team recovered well from the sluggish start.

 

With the win, Chase County now improves to 10-2 on the season as SCC falls to 5-10.

In the boy’s game, the Bulldogs defeated the Titans 46-31.

After the bulldogs established a seven-point lead in the first quarter, SCC managed to bounce back in the second, cutting the lead to two at one point, before an 11-4 run would give the Bulldogs a 23-14 lead at halftime. Both teams would then proceed to struggle from the field throughout the second half, however, Chase County would manage to outscore SCC 23-12 to come away with the win.

Chase County was led in scoring by junior Blaise Holloway with 14 points. Junior Owen Eidman ended the night with 11. SCC sophomore Nathan Borntreger led all scorers with 18 points.

Bulldogs head coach Cade Witte says despite the win, his team’s shooting left something to be desired.

 

With the win Chase County improves to 7-5 on the season as SCC falls to 0-16.
