Emporia High suffers losses at Topeka Seaman Featured

The Emporia High Lady Spartans suffered a 36-34 loss to Topeka Seaman Thursday evening.

The Lady Spartans would manage to lead midway through the second quarter before Seaman would retake the lead just fifteen seconds later. The Lady Spartans would keep it close in the second half and managed to tie the game in the final minute but could never retake the lead.

Emporia High was led in scoring by sophomores Gracie Gilpin and Allie Baker with nine points each.

Coach Carolyn Dorsey says despite the loss, her team is making progress.

The Spartans were also defeated 71-64 in the boy's game.

The first half would see a total of nine lead changes, but five three-pointers by Seaman Freshman Kaeden Bonner would help give the Vikings a 34-32 lead at the half. In the second Topeka Seaman would extend their lead to as many as 10 and Emporia High could never get back in the driver’s seat.

Coach Beau Welch says his team needs to play with more pride.

Despite the loss Emporia High had four players end the night in double figures and were led by junior Charles Snyder with 17 points. Junior Hunter Hines finished with 13 points while seniors Beau Baumgardner and Connor Hoyt ended the night with 11.

Emporia High returns to action Tuesday when they host Washburn Rural.
