Lyndon and Hartford claim wins on Area Game of the Week Friday Featured

Hartford and Lyndon both picked up wins in area high school basketball action Friday night.

The Hartford Lady Jaguars would shake off a slow start and overcome the loss of a key player to defeat the Lyndon Lady Tigers 36-26.

Hartford and Lyndon would trade the lead five times in the first half before Lyndon would overtake the momentum and establish a 3 point lead heading into the locker room 18-15. Hartford would manage to retake, and never lose, the lead in the third quarter. Lyndon would manage to tie the game on one occasion in the second half but could never retake the lead.

Hartford committed 10 turnovers in the first half and also lost junior Brooke Finnerty to injury in the second quarter. Coach Ryan Thomas says Finnerty was a major motivator for Hartford's turnaround in the second half.

Hartford was led by senior Bailey Darbyshire with 17 points. Lyndon was led by junior Abigail Criqui (CREEKEE) with nine. Hartford now improves to 13-5 on the season as Lyndon falls to 5-10.

The Lyndon boys would manage to take an early lead and staved off several quick runs by Hartford to pick up a 69-46 win.

Hartford would open the scoring in the game thanks to a technical handed out before tip-off, however, a 9-0 run by Lyndon would see them establish a lead they'd never relinquish in the first quarter. Hartford would manage to come as close as three to take the lead in the third quarter but could never catch up to the Tigers.

Lyndon was led in scoring by junior Miles Kitselman with 24 points. Assistant coach Ryan West took the helm Friday, as head coach Mike Massey was dealing with an illness, and says his team adjusted well to having a slight change on the bench.

Hartford was led by senior Cody Thomas with 17 points. Lyndon now improves to 12-3 on the season as Hartford falls to 4-14.
