ACC, KCAC AND NAIA announce fall schedule changes Featured

The ACC is moving forward with an 11-game football schedule, beginning the week of Sept. 7-12. The NAIA is moving most fall sports championships to spring. KCAC to hold fall sports competitions.

The ACC conference’s scheduling model, approved Wednesday by its Board of Governors as long as “public health guidance allows,” includes 10 conference games with one non-conference game. The non-conference game will be selected by each individual school and “must be played in the home state” of the ACC member.
That means the University of Kansas needs to find another opponent. The Jayhawks were scheduled to host Boston College on September 19th.
The Jayhawks have already replaced New Hampshire with Southern Illinois for their season opener.
The ACC is the third of the Power Five conferences to make a decision about the football season. The Big Ten and Pac-12 are both planning on playing a conference-only schedule, though neither have released details yet.
Meanwhile, Sports Illustrated reported Wednesday that the SEC was “moving closer” to finalizing a similar 10-game, conference-only format.

The NAIAs Council of Presidents has voted to postpone the national championships in cross country, men's soccer, women's soccer, and women's volleyball to spring 2021. This decision still allows NAIA conferences to compete in the fall and winter, if they so choose. A decision on the football national championship will be be made at meeting on Friday.
Prior to the vote, 51 NAIA individual institutions had already opted to postpone fall competition until spring 2021.

There are 15 schools in Kansas that are affiliated with the NAIA including 10 that are in the KCAC.

The KCAC announced they intend to compete this fall. Member schools may begin practice on Saturday, August 15 with all athletics contests beginning no sooner than Saturday, September 5 for all sports except for football. Football games will begin no sooner than Saturday, September 12.
