The Olpe Eagle held off the Lyndon Tigers 14-12 to advance to the 1-A State title game.

Olpe began the game by picking off Lyndon quarterback Darian Massey, and then scoring on a 37-yard Damon Redeker to Gabriel Castillo touchdown. Lyndon responded by driving deep into Olpe territory, only to be turned away on a 4th and inches at the Olpe 2. Redeker said that was a big turning point in the game.

Olpe proceeded to drive 98 yards, capping the drive with a one-yard Redeker run to lead 14-0 after the first quarter. Lyndon got on the board with a 67-yard Massey to Ethan Edington pass, but the extra point was blocked. Lyndon scored midway through the third quarter, after intercepting Redeker, when Massey plunged in from one-yard out. Lyndon attempted and failed, on a two-point conversion...keeping Olpe in front 14-12. Lyndon's final chance came following a Miles Kitselman strip-sack of Redeker with less than six minutes to play. Lyndon drove to first and goal at the Olpe five-yard line, but had to settle for a 27-yard field goal attempt with less than two minutes to play. The snap was in on the hip of the holder, eventually ending with Olpe's Max Blaufuss making the stop to preserve the win.
Redeker said the field goal attempt was nerve-racking.

Olpe Coach Chris Schmidt says they have something extra to be thankful for this week.

Olpe will play Oakley next Saturday, in Hays, for the 1-A State Title.  Oakley defeated Inman 9-0.
