A hail swath close to 40 miles long has residents in parts of Lyon and Osage counties cleaning up the damage Monday.
A severe thunderstorm complex developed near Allen around 10:30 am Sunday, dropping hail to the size of golf balls for as much as 10 minutes, according to Mayor Charles Eastman and Keith Cattle Company owner Brian Keith. Hail from half dollar to ping pong ball size was reported at Admire, with hail to half dollar size in Osage City and quarter-sized hail in Lyndon as well. The storm petered out after dropping nickel-sized hail in Quenemo.
So far, the only damage reports are from Allen, where holes in siding and windows have been noted along with significant vehicle damage. Hail also came through at least one roof in town.
