Astros torch Royals 13-5

For the second night in a row the Houston Astros routed the Kansas City Royals 13-5 last night. The Astros scored 7 runs in the 2nd inning and never looked back. Alex Gordon in his first game back hit a solo home run in the 6th inning. Drew Butera pitched in the 9th gave up 1 hit and had a strikeout. He also doubled in the bottom of the the 9th.

Emporia Energy teams to wrap up tournament play Sunday

The Emporia Energy 14 year old team will have to work their way thru the consolation side of the bracket at the Kansas City Metro 14-B Championship tournament Sunday. The 14 year olds were defeated by Intensity 4-1 in the semi-finals Saturday. To get to the semi-finals the 14 year olds defeated the St.Joe Hazard 7-3 and the Bandits 4-0.

NASCAR at Sonoma

After a weekend off, NASCAR's Sprint Cup series is back in action Sunday at Sonoma Raceway in California for the Toyota — Save Mart 350. Kyle Busch, with three wins on the season and two previous wins at Sonoma, including last year, is looking to repeat. But repeating is tough — the last seven races at Sonoma have produced seven different winners. Clint Bowyer won at Sonoma in 2012. Carl Edwards has the pole for the race. Clint Bowyer will start from the 18th spot.

Emporia High wrestling to host traditions camp

The Emporia High wrestling team will be holding their Traditions Camp June 28th, 29th and 30th. The camp is open to those interested in wrestling beginning at age 5 up to high school senior. The camp will be held at Emporia High school 9am-11am and 1pm-3pm. This is a free camp.

Astros blast Royals 13-4

The Houston Astros scored 9 runs in the top of the 1st inning and cruised to a 13-4 win over the Kansas City Royals Friday night. George Springer hit a grand slam and a triple in Houston's nine-run first inning against Edinson Volquez.
