Two Emporia golfers, Dave Watts and Chris Vahsholtz are representing the United States in the International Kings Cup Tournament being played in Ireland.
The Los Angeles Angels defeated the Kansas City Royals 6-1 Monday night. The Angels scored 3 of those runs in the first inning. They took advantage of a hit batter, a walk, a botched double play and a wild pitch. The Royals trailed 4-0 before scoring their only run in the 4th inning. The Emporia High boys golf team finished in 18th place out of 23 teams with a 359 score at the Topeka West Invitational. Individually Max Brown shot an 86 to finish 57th, Collin Hopkins shot a 87 to finish 63rd and Nico Apodaca shot an 89 to finish 74th. Washburn Rural took team honors with a 308 and Cole Gritton of Manhattan took medalist honors with a 68. The Centennial League tournament will be next for the Spartan Golfers.
Emporia High swimmers Jordan Metz and Colton Cain signed National Letters of Intent Monday.
