Alciedes Escobars 2 run home run in the 2nd inning tied the game at 2 but it was not enough for the Kansas City Royals as Cleveland completed a sweep of the Royals with a 5-2 win Thursday. Cleveland scored 3 runs in the 6th to take the lead and the win. Clevelands magic number for clinching the AL Central is down to 4. The Royals number for elimination from the wildcard chase is now 5. The Royals open a 3 game series in Detroit Friday night with first pitch set for 6:10. The Tigers now are 2nd in the wildcard standings.
The Emporia High boys soccer team played Topeka High to a 1-1 tie in double overtime Thursday. Topeka High scored first, 6 minutes into the match. Emporia tied the match with over 21 minutes to play on a goal by Wilber Landaverde. The Spartans are now 4-3-1 for the season. They are scheduled to play Topeka West on Tuesday.
The Kansas City Royals will not be repeating as the American League Central Division Champions. The Royals were eliminated from contention Wednesday night by the Cleveland Indians. The Indians out scored the Royals 4-3.
