Emporia High boys tennis 8th at Valley Center

The Emporia High boys tennis team finished in 8th place out of 8 teams at Valley Center Saturday. In singles play Brian Madrigal placed 12th and Wyatt Cahoone 16th. In doubles play Elvis Umana and Courtland Starr finished in 15th place and Nate Scheller and Steven Jaimes finished in 16th place.

Emporia States softball team split a doubleheader with Missouri Western Saturday. The Lady Hornets won the first game 6-2 and Western won the 2nd game 6-3.

Emporia State football wrapping up 2017 spring

(ESU) The Emporia State football team wraps up spring practices Saturday with the Spring Game. Kick-off is set for 2:30 at Welch Stadium. The day begins with the first Legends Game will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Jones Field at Welch Stadium. Nearly 60 former Hornets have indicated they are returning for the Legends Weekend events with 22 signed up for the 7-on-7 Legends Game. Among those schedule to play are former quarterback and current head coach Garin Higgins, All-American defensive lineman Danny Webb, and former Kansas City Chief practice squad member Adam Schiltz.

(ESPN/AP) Joey Gallo and Robinson Chirinos each homered twice to back a season-high eight innings from Cole Hamels and the Texas Rangers beat the Kansas City Royals 6-2 Friday night.

Emporia High baseball sweeps Highland Park, win 7-0 and 14-2

The Emporia High baseball team swept a doubleheader from Highland Park Friday. The Spartans won the first game 7-0. Kostin Mercer was the winning pitcher teaming up with Jace Stewart for the shutout. The Spartans won the second game 14-2.  Hayden Baumwart had 4 hits and drove in 3 runs to lead the offense. Freshman Cade Kohlmeier was the starting pitcher and picked up his first win. The Spartans are now 6-4 for the season and will host Manhattan Tuesday.
