After nearly two solid weeks of flooding ended Wednesday for Lyon County, it appears flooding is set to resume southeast of Emporia.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Neosho River at Neosho Rapids from late Sunday night until Wednesday morning. As of 4 pm, the river had not reached flood stage at 22 feet — but the Weather Service expects the river will go into flood by Monday morning and crest at 22.8 feet Monday afternoon. The river should go back below flood stage by Tuesday afternoon.
Heavy rain — anywhere from 3-6 inches worth — is expected for the KVOE listening area Monday afternoon into Tuesday morning, with heavier totals for Chase County and Morris County, the Neosho River’s headwaters. Heavier rain is also expected in Marion County, the headwaters of the Cottonwood River. A flash flood watch has been announced for the entire KVOE listening area through most of Thursday.
