Lyon County Commissioners will take a week before rendering a verdict on a request for annexation of property west of Emporia.
During their weekly action session, commissioners chose to table discussions on a request from Evergy to annex a 20-acre parcel of land located at 600 Road 180. The annexation is in relation to Evergy’s move from its current headquarters to Road 180.
The reason for the commission’s decision came about after legal counsel Marc Goodman stated concerns regarding the wording contained in the ordinance. Goodman stated the ordinance was “confusing” and needed to be “cleaned up” before the county could take action on the issue.
Additionally, Goodman stated there were certain findings that needed to be made, namely that the annexation of the land would not have any adverse effect on the growth and development of the surrounding area. Commissioners plan to review the matter during their regular action session next week.
In other business, commissioners approved the amended by-laws and cooperation agreement between Lyon County and the Kansas Counties Association Multiline Pool (KCAMP). The amendments to the bylaws were “linguistic” changes proposed during the annual meeting between KCAMP member counties and the KCAMP board earlier this year.
Commissioners also held three executive sessions with no action taken.
The Lyon County Commission will reconvene next Thursday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
