The Emporia State softball team closed out the regular season by splitting a doubleheader with Washburn Saturday.
Emporia State won the first game 4-2. Ari Cordova hit a home run in the first inning. Abby Ward drove in a run in the 3rd inning to give Emporia State a 2-0 lead. Ari Cordova drove in 2 runs in the 6th inning to give Emporia State the win. Gracie Rabe was the winning pitcher giving up 2 runs on 8 hits.
Washburn won the 2nd game 3-1 in 9 innings. Emporia State scored first, Josie Harrison scoring on an Emma Furnish single in the 4th inning. Washburn tied the game in the bottom of the 4th. They won the game with a 2-run home run with 2 out in the bottom of the 9th.
Emporia State will be the 7th seed in the MIAA tournament that begins Wednesday in Topeka.
