Nesting Incorporated Founder Kitty Hamilton believes there is much room for collaboration between the new non-profit and pre-existing senior citizen service agencies.
Hamilton shared those feelings in response to a question from KVOE News following her presentation to Lyon County Commissioners Thursday morning. KVOE News inquired if Hamilton’s new agency, which is looking to provide various services to local senior citizens, would look to compete with area senior centers or other senior service agencies.
KVOE’s questions stemmed from concerns expressed by local senior center representatives following the announcement of Nesting’s formation regarding potential “competition” between the non-profit and already established centers and agencies. Hamilton believes Nesting’s programming differs enough from other entities that there would be no need for any competition and that she wants to work side-by-side with the various senior centers to help facilitate specific programming that can benefit all local seniors.
KVOE also inquired if Nesting would look to construct or purchase a building to house their operations in the future. Her response: “I can’t see that we would ever need a building.”
Hamilton also announced Thursday the non-profit has established a designated fund with the Emporia Community Foundation and recently submitted its first grant under the ECF umbrella. Hamilton expects to hear back on the grant’s status by sometime in May.
In other business Thursday, commissioners approved:
*A $17,000 payment from Priority Dispatch for the annual system license renewal and support for the department’s medical and fire protocols as submitted by Lyon County Emergency Communications Director Roxanne Van Gundy.
*The Consumer Rating System paperwork as requested by Zoning and Floodplain Administrator Sam Seeley
*A documentary security agreement with Fidlar Technologies presented by Register of Deeds Wendy Weiss.
The Lyon County Commission will convene with Emporia City Commissioners next Wednesday for their first joint meeting of the year at noon. Commissioners will then hold their regular action meeting at 9 am inside of the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers next Thursday.
