Quality conversation and some helpful feedback were the results of a recent community get-together hosted by Emporia’s First Congregational Church Saturday afternoon.
The church welcomed roughly 50 visitors from the community over two hours for an afternoon of food, fun and activities. Church member Lesley Hedges says in addition to engaging with community members, they also received some helpful feedback on church programs that community members would like to see in the future.
The church had previously hosted a weekly community meal and essentials pantry, however, those offerings ceased shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic and were never restarted. In their place over the last three years has been the church’s baby closet which pastor Ashton McDonald noted earlier in the week has seen record numbers of use over the past year.
Hedges says she can’t say exactly what has led to the increased use, but it shows there is a great need for the resource locally.
