The Flint Hills Optimist Club has begun its largest annual fundraiser.
The Optimist Club Christmas tree lot is now open for business and business has already been steady as trees were flying off the lot just five minutes after it opened Friday morning. Bob Burnheide of the Optimist Club says they always see a steady stream of early visitors on opening day.
He says that has a lot to do with both the reputation of the club and the quality of trees they offer each year.
As always, the lot has a great selection of trees, including Canadian balsam, Fraser fir, white pine, and scotch pine.
While the response to the fundraiser is on par with years past, one difference this year is that the Optimist Club will be accepting payments via credit and debit card which has never been done in the past. Cash and check will also be accepted with all proceeds going to benefit various youth programs within the local area.
Burnheide offered a few examples of the programs that have benefited from the tree lot and other Optimist efforts over the years.
The Christmas tree lot will be open in the Guion’s Showcase parking lot until Christmas or while supplies last with the hours of operation being 5:30-7:30 pm weekdays, 10 am to 7:30 pm Saturdays and 1-6 pm Sundays. For more information or questions visit the Flint Hills Optimist Club Facebook page.
