Emporia girls wrestling dominated Saturday in their home tourney. The Lady Spartans scored 187.5 team points followed by Council Grove in second with 114. The black and red won seven of the 14 weight classes.
Chloe Steele (100) went 2-0 in her matches and she did something for the first time in her career.
Kinsley Medrano is no stranger to winning as the defending state champion at 120 swept her three contests.
Saturday however she wrestled at 125.
Medrano isn’t the only Lady Spartan flirting with a new weight class. Alexa Castillo is competing at 190 this year. The senior is off to a fast start after claiming gold in the opening meet. Sienna Spaulding (105) was another Emporia wrestler that won her bracket,
Head coach Shawn Russell was really happy with what he saw.
Araceli Aleman (140), Laila Guerrero (235), and Mauriana Atkins (155) were the other top finishers for EHS. Coach Russell was very impressed with the freshman Atkins.
The Lady Spartans travel to Great Bend on Friday for a two day tournament.
