With an eye towards public transparency, the city of Emporia has developed its first-ever Annual Budget Book.
The city says the resource, available online at emporiaks.gov/budget, is designed to be both comprehensive and easily understandable, giving residents a better sense of how the annual budget is developed and funded as it supports different city services. The new resource includes details about revenues, expenses, department highlights, long-term plans and 2026 projects. It is also designed to give more information about property taxes, specifically the city’s roughly 27 percent of Lyon County’s overall tax bill for items like community services, infrastructure, law enforcement, emergency response, parks and utilities, as part of a Municipal Tax Road Map information page.
The plan is to update the Budget Book annually. The online web page also includes information about the city’s five-year budget and annual budgets dating back to 2012.
