Lyon County’s new K-9 is getting new equipment.
The Sheriff’s Office says Ace will receive a bullet- and stab-protective vest through a donation from the non-profit entity Vested Interest in K9s Inc. Ace’s vest was sponsored by Pamela Nation of Jacksonville, Arkansas, and should be in hand in the next 10 weeks.
The program is open to US dogs that are at least 20 months old, certified with law enforcement or related agencies and are actively employed. K9s with expired vests can also participate. Vests are $1,800 and have a five-year warranty. Donations of $1,050 or more will sponsor a vest.
Residents interested in sponsoring a vest can go online to vik9s.org or call 508-824-6978. Vested Interest is a 501(c)(3) dedicated to offering protective vests and other assistance to law enforcement dogs. Its vests are made in America, custom-designed and certified by the National Institute of Justice.
