Dr James Geitz, a longtime local physician, has passed away.
Geitz, 79, passed away at the Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers, Florida.
Born in St Louis, Missouri, Geitz was a physician at Internal Medicine Associates and its predecessors from 1975 until his retirement in 2013. Besides his time as a physician, Geitz was also known for his community service, holding several terms on the Newman Regional Health Board of Trustees, and Rotary Club of Emporia. He was also involved in Emporia’s Didde Catholic Campus Center and St Leo’s Catholic Church in Bonita Springs, Florida.
Services will be at Didde Catholic Campus Center next week. A rosary will be recited at 5 pm Feb 27 with visitation immediately following. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 pm Feb 28, with a private burial later at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Flint Hills Technical College has postponed its Prairie Fire Award reception, initially set for Feb 27, after Geitz’s passing. A new date is pending.
