This past weekend gave Emporians an opportunity to support those who support them year-round.
Saturday saw the most recent edition of the annual Badges United bell-ringing event to collect donations for the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign.
The morning featured members of Emporia Police and Emporia Fire out at Walmart and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office stationed at Bluestem Farm and Ranch Supply.
Deputy Fire Chief Jesse Taylor says Badges United is something that they look forward to every year.
Lyon County Sheriff Jeff Cope says that Emporia’s response to charitable events such as these never disappoints.
The fundraiser gave Emporians an opportunity to donate to the local Salvation Army Kettle Campaign and support those who may need a little extra help this holiday season.
Emporia Police Lt. Tim Wacker says that the work the Salvation Army does is incredibly important, especially during the holidays.
In the afternoon once Badges United concluded, the Lions Club of Emporia took over fundraising. The Lions manned the kettles through the afternoon and early evening hours, matching up to $1,000 in donations.
This was double the amount the club has matched in years past.
Fundraising totals are currently pending.
