Charrette meetings begin to shape city-county comprehensive plan

Emporia and Lyon County government leaders are urging everybody to attend the joint city-county comprehensive plan charrette meeting and related activities over the next week.

Character studies are the focus today before focus group presentations Wednesday through Friday on topics ranging from land use to transportation to housing and community character. There will also be a special open house Wednesday before public input sessions Thursday in Americus, Allen, Admire and Bushong and more public input sessions Friday in Hartford, Neosho Rapids, Olpe and Reading.

On a recent Talk of Emporia, Urban Collaborative planner Zoe Anton said she wanted to see as many people as possible, and she encouraged people to be ready for a dialogue.

Both the city of Emporia and Lyon County have separate comprehensive plans, but those haven't been adjusted in years. Officials with both government levels have increased their collaborative efforts on various matters the past several years, and they see a comprehensive plan as a natural extension of those efforts.
