Ongoing project updates highlight City/County joint meeting Wednesday Tagan Trahoon/KVOE News

City and County commissioners met at White Auditorium Wednesday afternoon for their quarterly joint meeting.

Both sets of commissioners were treated to updates on ongoing projects. The first dealt with the joint radio project which has been in development since the start of the year. According to Assistant Fire Chief Brandon Beck, the 911 board has recently conducted site visits to ensure the maps and coverage areas proposed by Motorolla will work in the community.

He says after the visits the 911 board feels confident the proposed sites will indeed improve radio coverage and be beneficial for the community as a whole. Beck says they were hoping for a 95 percent coverage rate with the new radio system. He says this is a typical number for Motorolla and other counties have reported the coverage is typically better than 95 percent.

Motorolla will next present final numbers at the 911 Board's July meeting later this month. At that time the board will make the decision to either accept or not accept the proposal.

Additionally city and county leadership were updated on the new zoning regulations which are still in the works. According to Lyon County Zoning and Floodplain Manager Sam Seeley plans are to have a town hall meeting on July 24 at 6:30 pm inside the little theatre at White Auditorium to present the very first draft of the updated documents to the public.

The meeting will consist of a brief presentation and then be opened up for public discussion according to Seeley. The hopes are to have the new regulations completed by the end of the year, however, Seeley says there is the possibility of more conversation stretching those plans out.

He says their contract with aiding consultants is up at the end of the year which is a reason for wanting the documents completed in that time span. If it is not completed by that time frame, Seeley says it is a document which can be worked on over time.

A discussion on the Reading Wind Farm also took place during the meeting. You can find more information on that topic online at
