For the second time in a month, the Lyon County Planning and Appeals Board will have a hearing on a potentially significant zoning change northeast of Emporia.

Board members are holding their monthly meeting Wednesday. The main point of business will be the so-called Price tract -- over 300 acres of land owned by Lex and Janice Price in the 1500 block of Road 200. The Price family has reached an agreement with Burlington Northern Santa Fe to market the property as part of its certified rail site program if the county changes the zoning from agriculture to heavy industrial.

Last month, the Planning Board voted unanimously to recommend that change to the Lyon County Commission. However, county commissioners sent the application back to Planning Board members on a 2-1 vote, saying the county needs more oversight of the potential uses for the property. Planning, Zoning and Floodplain Management Director Sam Seeley says the county can have input on six of the nearly 50 potential uses of the property under heavy industrial zoning.

The meeting is at 7 pm at the County Courthouse Annex.
